Skechers beach cities pier-to-pier walk Sunday biggest charity event in California
California’s largest charity event kicks off Sunday at the Manhattan
Beach Pier for the seventh annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk.
More than 12,000 people will unite to support education and children
with special needs.
Before the walk starts at 9 a.m., a special
performance will take place by the Los Angeles Clippers Dance Team.
Participants at the annual event walk south to the Hermosa Beach Pier,
then return to the Manhattan Beach Pier. The total duration of the walk
is about 3.5 miles.
Various celebrities plan to attend, including Brooke
Burke-Charvet, Sugar Ray Leonard, Denise Austin and stars from
Nickelodeon, Disney and ABC.
Since its inception in 2009, more
than $4 million has been raised for The Friendship Circle, a nonprofit
that assists children with special needs and their families, as well as
local education foundations. The funds raised have been used to
implement free programs at The Friendship Circle and helped save
teachers’ jobs, preserve academic programs, and enhance libraries and
school technology. This year the event is on track to raise $1.2
million.
